11Alive is a Proud Partner in the Inaugural ING Georgia Marathon!
On Sunday March 25, 15,000 runners from all over the world will descend on Atlanta for the first-ever ING Georgia Marathon and Half Marathon, and 11Alive will be there, bringing you in-depth and thorough coverage of this unprecedented event from a uniquely personal perspective.
Here’s a look at what 11Alive & 11Alive.com will do to cover the race:
- 11Alive reporter Julie Wolfe, herself a 3-time marathon runner, will lend her own unique “insider” perspective as she competes in this year’s inaugural race, and chronicles her personal race experience in a blog on 11Alive.com.
- Julie will also share her “Marathon Journeys,” remarkable stories of passion and inspiration every night at 7 on the 11Alive Evening News with Brenda Wood. She’ll tell you about “Team 65 Roses”, a group of people running to raise money for Cystic Fibrosis, including a 52 year old marathon runner who has the disease and was not expected to live past childhood. Another story profiles Amy Shatten, who recently lost both legs to cancer yet is training to compete in her first wheelchair half-marathon.
- On Friday, March 23, 11Alive News will go behind-the-scenes to bring you all the excitement of the “night before” race preparations.
- On Saturday, March 24, watch 11Alive News for coverage of the ING Direct Tot Trot at Atlantic Station, where up to 500 kids 8 years and younger will complete a fun run to raise awareness of Georgia’s growing childhood obesity problem.
- And now, for the big event, live on 11Alive, and on 11Alive.com, at 7am Sunday morning, Ted Hall and 11Alive News will be at Underground Atlanta to bring you the thrilling start of the race, as 15,000 runners and wheelchair racers from all 50 states and 25 countries compete in Georgia’s longest distance running event. Live cut-ins all morning long will keep you up to date on what’s happening along the race route, who’s in the lead and who’s breaking records.
- Be sure to check out our race page on 11Alive.com for detailed and in-depth coverage of the marathon: from pre-race information on the race route and street closings to Julie Wolfe’s race blog which follows her marathon experience from beginning to end..And if you want to track a specific runner’s progress, the race will be streamed live starting at 7am on Sunday morning.
