Runners Race to Register Before New Year
Increase in Registration Costs Takes Effect Jan. 1, 2007

(Dec. 11, 2006, ATLANTA) – First-time and veteran runners alike are encouraged to pick up the pace this month and register for the inaugural ING Georgia Marathon & Half Marathon before an increase in the cost of the race takes effect January 1, 2007. Before the end of this month, December 31, registration for the half marathon is $65, it will increase to $75 on Jan. 1; the registration for the marathon is $80, it will increase to $95 on Jan. 1. The ING Georgia Marathon & Half Marathon will be held on Sunday, March 25, 2007.

“Registering before the rate increase might help some people meet two of their New Year’s Resolutions: to save money and to get in shape,” said Victoria Seahorn, race director of the ING Georgia Marathon & Half Marathon. “Because space in the race is limited, we’re encouraging people to sign up as soon as possible. Atlanta is a great running town and we can’t wait to start a new tradition for spring, from the race itself to the Neighborhood Challenge for residents.” To ensure a successful event, the number of participants is limited to 15,000; the race is expected to sell-out.

The cost of registration guarantees a spot in the race and each participant will receive a unique commemorative inaugural medal, a Mizuno technical training shirt, a commemorative marathon poster, and many other goodies that will be available only to those participating in this first-time event. In addition, all registered participants qualify to participate in a performance and environmental study being conducted by Georgia State University. Registration is available online at the ING Georgia Marathon website  (www.inggeorgiamarathon.com).

The ING Georgia Marathon & Half Marathon, to be held on Sunday, March 25, is Georgia’s first neighborhood–based marathon and half marathon. It will travel through 26.2 miles (and 13.1 miles for the half marathon) of the metro Atlanta area’s most interesting and historic areas including the Sweet Auburn District, Inman Park, Decatur, midtown and downtown. Along the way, it will pass landmarks including the King Center, Carter Center, Margaret Mitchell House and finish at Underground Atlanta. The ING Georgia Marathon & Half Marathon includes a marathon, half-marathon and wheelchair events.
